Artists’ books are as varied as the artists who created them.
Artists’ books are works of art in the form of a book. However, the interpretation of the word ‘book’ is loose and not necessarily what we may consider to be a traditional book. Hence, artists’ books include a variety of forms and structures. Not only is the content contained within the structure the work of art, but the construction of the container is too. Artists’ books are completely handmade, some may contain words, some may not. They are as varied as the artists who have created them. As an author and bookbinder, I am passionate about all things ‘books’, this includes paper, fibres, textiles and structures. Taking small pieces of art and placing them into a structure that will carry and support them offers a different experience to art that is placed upon a wall. It provides an intimate, interactive and sensory experience.
